next step

Yesterday, as I was driving to work, I got a call from one of Joe's residents. He called to let me know that after they took all but one of the drains out of his neck, he was deemed ok for discharge. He was being discharged within the hour.......OOOOKKKAAAYYY, as I am slowing the car down... how is he getting to the place he chose. ( we were all set up for discharge on Thurs). OHH we have a wheelchair ambulance to take him. WHEW!! ok good.
So Joe chose the stepdown unit close to his apartment. Which I am kind of glad he did not choose the one near my parents. Especially after my mom's lack of seeing her only son today,, because she "had quilting". I was just amazed, she has not seen her son since we took him home after the first round of surgery.
As i was thinking about that, I am hoping she had no desire to see him with his tubes and unable to speak, with the big "U" shaped incision on his neck. now THAT would make more sense.
Even as a healthcare professional... it is different when it is your family member.

Joe has a drs appointment next week sometime for his re-evaluation, follow up. Then the team of drs will meet to discuss what they feel is the best, most effective way to continue to conquer this cancer.
I have reminded the hospital, that there is a transportation issue... so their help in that would be appreciated.
Fingers crossed they get the kinks worked out of this, as they have everything else.
