When talking to Mom and Dad today, they shared that Joe is able to successfully eat jello, ice cream and broth! Yes, the sensation of eating is truly an important aspect to ones' quality of life.
We have convinced Mom that her trucking down to Philly for the follow up appointment may truly not be a good idea for her health on the following days.
Now, we have arranged a conference call, so she can hear the information but not be uncomfortable. Plus, dad can truly listen to what is being said, and not be distracted with his concern if mom is really ok, or pretending. When she pretends, that is when trouble starts.
She is already throwing up "phlem" again today.... yep,, er visit comign soon.
I won a text to speech device for Joe on ebay and he gave me the "a okay" to order it. cool. It is about the size of an ipad.. and if it helps him communicate just for a while that is ok. I am just glad he is open to a device to help him.. he is not too worried about leaning on something to speak for him now.
he can talk on the phone then too.. just thought of that.
Unfortunately we found out that his radiation treatments start on Friday... surprisingly quick compared to what we were told. Guess there is no reason to wait if the time and place are set.
WE also got him into a cancer center that provides transporation during the week... so that is a huge help.
Although things get very confused at times, things amazingly are falling into place.
Next stop... philly.
